Charlie Booth is one of Australia's great sporting personalities. A champion athlete and inventor, Charlie discusses his athletic achievements and his overall philosophical outlook on life, having survived a depression and a couple of world wars. Sadly Charlie passed away in 2008, aged 104.

Stawell Gift is Australia's oldest professional sporting event. To many it is another sporting event, to the professional runner, it is the most prestigious race to win and the best event to be part of.

Professional running has been an integral part of Australian history, introduced during the gold rush of the 1800s and surviving two depressions and two world wars. Its status in Australia is exemplified with the running of the Stawell Gift.

One of many meets that are conducted by the Victorian Athletic League (VAL), Stawell carries a highly regarded international reputation and perceived by sport loving australians as the Melbourne Cup of athletics.
